In episode 18 of eCommerce Uncensored, Kevin and Jason of Fast Forward Unlimited talk about why blogs are such an important advertising tool on Facebook and how you can use them to convert readers into revenue.
First thing you need to understand is the mindset of your Facebook reader. People go on Facebook to be entertained, learn what’s going on with others and keep up with trends. They are not there to shop. So bombarding someone who has never even heard of your brand with targeted ads can really be off-putting, particularly on this platform. This is where the blog comes in.
Get your customer’s attention and draw them in with the content of your blog. Offer information, solve a problem, or give them tips that will enhance their lives. Once they see the value of what they are reading and they can let their guard down…then you can pitch your brand. Your customer may be much more receptive once they see that your content is helpful. Check out our blog, “5 Not-So-Obvious Mistakes Most eCommerce Brands Are Making That’s Killing Their Revenue“, as an example of how to provide value to your customer through your blog.
Some other tips for using blogs on Facebook:
- Use “buying” keywords, for example, “tips on buying…” so your not pitching your product right off the bat.
- Use the blog to “pre-frame” your customer and drive them to your brand.
- Retarget the reader once they’ve checked out your blog, rather than using direct advertising as your first interaction.
As always you have to remember your audience and adapt your marketing strategy to the person and platform you are working with.
